8 Great Reasons To Buy Vintage & Pre-Owned Fashion

by | Aug 14, 2020 | Fashion

The tide of changing sentiment towards how we consume clothing keeps rising, and here at Semiwoven, it is exciting to see so much renewed interest in vintage and pre-owned clothing. We’ve always been obsessed with vintage. Starting from when we were teenagers trying to look different, up until now when we are both more environmentally and more budget conscious.

Whether your priority is sustainability or economy, here are the best reasons to buy vintage and pre-owned clothing.[/vc_column_text]

  1. Express Your Unique Style – Why look just like everyone else? Show your personality, your creativity and what makes you, you with clothes that have character. Try mixing up vintage and new styles for extra impact.
  2. Save the Environment – Buying pre-owned and vintage clothing means not buying a new-made item that uses a ton of resources like water and energy, while creating waste like pesticides and dye runoff. Plus, by buying vintage or pre-owned, you are keeping that item in use and potentially out of a landfill.
  3. Save the Animals – Help to avoid purchasing new items made from newly resourced animal materials like wool, feathers and leather.
  4. Save Your Money – Buying pre-owned is economical
  5. Wear It Forever – Unlike most things made today (we’re looking at you, fast fashion), many vintage items were originally made to last, so even if they’ve been worn before, they likely will still have a lot of wear left in them.
  6. Get Creative – Remember that scene in “Pretty In Pink” when Molly Ringwald combines two vintage dresses? Well, the reason vintage clothing is so great for reworking in creative ways is that these items often were made more generously, with more fabric used (and typically better quality of fabric) and more trims. So let your creativity loose and try reusing and repurposing vintage items.
  7. Connect With History – Clothes can be a window into the past. Whether purchased or passed down, clothing can connect us to the period or people they came from.
  8. Don’t Buy, Invest – We can all get behind the salvo “buy better, not more” and buying well-made, durable clothing that lasts fits that bill.
