Buying art can be daunting. Unless you know exactly what you want and where to buy it, the sheer size of the online art market makes it very difficult to know where to begin, and the risk of getting ripped off runs high. Remember that “signed” Picasso lithograph you dropped some serious dime for on eBay, only then to discover the seller’s “no returns” policy in the fine print? Thankfully, there are many established and reputable galleries and resources out there, and we’ve rounded up some of our favorites. Whether you are looking for a piece by an up-and-coming artist or a signed, authenticated print by a world-renowned photographer, you will likely find what you are seeking on one of these websites.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
Tappan Collective
Founded in 2012 as an online art resource, Tappan Collective is a nicely-curated selection of art that ranges from around $200 to $12,000. The selection is very much oriented to young collectors. This makes Tappan Collective a particularly good online art option, as the curation saves the time of sifting through marketplaces.
Artstar
Artstar is focused on contemporary collectible editions of prints. Each limited edition print comes in multiple sizes and frame options. They also create special collaborations, and have a cute kids’ art offering. Overall the look is fun and colorful. While prices range up to $4,000 for an original artwork, many prints start at $150.
Lumas
Lumas has an enormous selection of photography prints, with open editions starting at $99. The breadth of selection means there is something for every taste, from rock stars to rainbows. They also have physical galleries across Europe, and 3 in the US. We also really like their handy guide to hanging art.
Magnum Photos
An impressive array of photography in various formats including posters and fine prints. Magnum Photos also has a limited-time print sale with signed or estate-stamped 6×6” museum quality prints for $100. And definitely don’t miss the limited edition collection of Magnum photos rendered in Play-Doh by Eleanor Macnair.
The Citizenry
It’s no secret that we’re fans of The Citizenry’s home decor collections. They also have a nice selection of framed travelogue photography. Each is available in 3 sizes, with a white or blonde wood frame.
